Thomaston – William Anton Berg, 87, passed into Glory on December 29, 2020. He was born on September 12, 1933 in Detroit, MI, the son of Anton and Hilda Berg. Bill was a graduate of Thomaston High School and attended UConn and West Virginia Wesleyan College. In 1955 he and his father founded Berg Carbide Die Company where he spent his career.

Bill loved his Lord Jesus and was a faithful member of the First Congregational Church of Thomaston where he served on many boards and committees. He was a long-time member of the church choir, as well as the Liederkranz German Singing Society and the Barnstormer Men’s Chorus. He was involved with the Tres Dias Community and Kairos Prison Ministry, the Salvation Army committee and a 50 – year member, past president and Paul Harris Fellow of the Thomaston Rotary Club. Always involved in the community, he served the Thomaston Board of Education as a member and chairman for many years, was a corporator of the Thomaston Savings Bank and a member of the Watertown Golf Club.

He loved his family and is survived by his wife of 64 years, Margaret, his three daughters, Janice Hucks (Ric) of Pawleys Island, SC, Cathy Fredlund (Jay) and Susan Abbott (Jim) both of Thomaston; his sister, Betty of New York, NY; five grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers, Jim and Richard.

A celebration of his life will be held at the First Congregational Church of Thomaston and on Zoom on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. Masks and social distancing are required.
