Englewood, FL. – William F. Hayes, Sr., 85, of Englewood, FL., formerly of Thomaston, passed away Saturday, August 22, 2020 at his home. He was the husband of the late Jeannette (Dery) Hayes.
William was born on May 29, 1935 in Waterbury, son of the late Patrick and Bertha (Mitchell) Hayes. He served honorably in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict aboard the U.S.S. Saratoga. William worked as a machine operator at the Drawn Metal Tube Company in Thomaston from which he retired after 32 years of service. He was an avid New York Jets and New York Mets fan, enjoyed playing golf, horseshoes, and cards with his family. He also enjoyed the Florida sun and traveling with his wife, their favorite place being Hawaii.
William is survived by two sons, William Hayes, Jr. of Florida and John Hayes of Thomaston; daughter-in-laws, Debra Hayes and Deborah Hayes, both of Thomaston; four grandchildren, Seth Jenkins of Bristol, Christine Hayes of Thomaston, Garrett Hayes and his wife Rachel of Watertown, and Justin Hayes and his wife Lindsay of Northfield; nine great-grandchildren; his sister Margaret Shugrue of Florida; and his nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Richard Hayes; and his sister Shirley Ann Cortese.
