Ellington – Mr. William (Bill) Douglas Hoyt, 61, of Ellington, left us unexpectedly on November 21, 2018. Bill was born on April 6, 1957 in Waterbury, son of Janet (MacLean) Hoyt and the late Bernard C. Hoyt.
Growing up in Thomaston, Bill was a graduate of Thomaston High School, Class of 1975. He went on to earn his BS in Electrical Engineering from Norwich University in Northfield, VT in 1979. He was employed for 39 years by United Technologies Aerospace Systems (UTAS) in Windsor Locks, CT. During his career at UTAS, Bill worked a number of years in other countries around the world including Switzerland, France, and Brazil. Bill was an avid skier, growing up skiing at Mohawk Mountain, becoming a Ski Patrolman, and subsequently a Racing Coach at Mount Southington. It was Bill’s love of skiing that brought him to school in Vermont. When not skiing, Bill could be found in his garage restoring a classic car or truck. He was also an avid Yankees fan. Bill’s greatest passion though was forging friendships. During his time, Bill developed long and lasting relationships with family and friends wherever he went.
Besides his mother Janet, Bill is survived by his brothers and their wives, James and Kathleen Hoyt of Hamden, and David and Linda Hoyt of Waltham, MA. Bill was a devoted uncle and is survived by his three nephews, Shane, Logan, and Maximus, and his niece, Violet.
Family and friends are invited to a service to celebrate Bill’s life on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at the First Congregational Church of Thomaston, 135 Main St., Thomaston. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
Bill was a proud Eagle Scout. As such, should friend’s desire, his family has suggested that memorial donations be made to the Boy Scouts of America at www.scouting.org/give.
